Anchor
The starting point for a hypertext link. You activate the link by clicking on the anchor, or in a text-based system, by selecting the anchor with the tab or arrow keys and then hitting the enter key.

In the familiar HTML (HyperText Markup Language) format used for World Wide Web pages, text anchors are usually shown as colored and underlined text, while picture anchors often have a colored outline. Most browsers indicate the link designation when you position the cursor over a text anchor. But if a picture points to multiple destinations depending on precise cursor location--that is, if it's a image map rather than a simple image anchor--you may not find out the address a click will lead you to until you try it.
