Configuring a system can in some cases be a major job requiring help from an experienced user. The job is particularly complex if the task involves software or hardware from several different manufacturers. Many programs have their own configuration, sometimes called Set-up or Preferences. Typically, these let you both set choices, such as the extent of confirmation required for deletions, and tell the program about any special hardware you might be using. Once a program has been configured, the results of the dialogue are installed into the program, and the configuration does not normally have to be done again unless the equipment or operating environment is changed.
