isr.co.ro : glossary Directory As applied to computer storage, a list of the files contained on a disk or other storage unit, along with information about the file formats and where the information is stored. Usually only part of the information is displayed for the user, and the rest is reserved for the operating system. The user part is often called a catalog. As applied to the Internet, a database, list, or formatted document that indicates where to find a particular machine, person, or resource. Some common types include e-mail directories, routing directories, and subject-oriented Web directories. Using as typed and displayed only in the shortened dir form, a command in MS-DOS and many other systems telling the system to display the current directory information.
