- A popular Macintosh program for using the Internet's File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service. Technically, it's an FTP client and requires either a direct Internet connection or a protocol-driven link, such as PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol).
Fetch features a graphical user interface, drag-and-drop tranfers, multiple simultaneous downloads, and compatibility with a wide variety of system resources, file types, and system configurations. The program was written by Jim Matthews at Dartmouth University. It can be downloaded from the Net, but users who are not associated with an educational institution or non-profit organization must pay an inexpensive license fee.
