Such messages include electronic mail, voicemail, and videomail. Unlike real-time messaging, such as chat or conferencing, the message recipient doesn't have to be online when you send a mail message. And unlike a newsgroup or bulletin board posting, a mail message is directed towards a particular person or organization, or list of such recipients, instead of towards the public in general.
