| isr.co.ro : glossary - NFS (Network File System)
- A set of standards for linking computers and mass, storage devices, such as disk drives developed by Sun Microsystems, and widely used by the computers that act as host machines for the Internet.
Among its other features, NFS allows software to treat files on remote machines as if they were local files (which in turn lets anyone running an NFS host to add disk capacity or multiple host machines) without having to rewrite and reorganize all their existing file routines. As an ordinary user, the only time you're likely to notice NFS is when there's a hardware or software crash and it shows up in an error message.
